University at Albany Hillel Hires New Executive Director

9/2/04

The University at Albany Hillel is pleased to announce the hire of Rabbi Benjamin Shull as its Executive Director.  Bringing experience as both a congregational rabbi and Executive Director of Jewish Family Services, Rabbi Shull is uniquely qualified to serve the student population utilizing Hillel and expand the base from which UAlbany’s Hillel operates.  Ben is thrilled to be working with college students at this critical time in Jewish history.

As Executive Director, Ben serves as the CEO of the University at Albany Hillel Foundation, implementing Hillel's mission of building and sustaining vibrant, meaningful, and pluralistic Jewish campus communities. Working closely with students, lay leaders, alumni, the University at Albany, and the local Albany and the Metropolitan New York Jewish communities, the Director provides strategic vision, leadership, and managerial oversight for the local Foundation.

Ben is a graduate of the University of Virginia (1980), received rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary (1986) and holds a MSW from Columbia University (1987).  He held pulpits in Florida and Virginia and was the Executive Director of Tampa’s Jewish Family Services from 1996-2000. Rabbi Shull is married to Dr. Stacey Lang.  He has five children.  “I’m very excited about participating in the Capital District Jewish community, professionally and personally. We hope to be here for a long time,” notes Shull.

For more information about the University at Albany Hillel, please contact Ben Shull, Executive Director at 489-8573 x24 or bjshull@ualbanyhillel.org.
